On Thursday, 27 November 2025, the Spouse of the President of the Republic, Dr Aleš Musar, delivered an inaugural address to open the exhibition “Paths of Impressionism: Slovenian Modern Art in Dachau,” which presents the finest achievements of Slovenian Impressionist painters to the Bavarian public.

The opening ceremony was attended by numerous high-ranking representatives from Bavaria, Munich and Dachau, including Member of the Bavarian Parliament Mr Bernhard Seidenach and the Mayor of Dachau Mr Florian Hartman. Greetings were also delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Germany Dr Ana Polak Petrič and the Director-General at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia Barbara Koželj Podlogar.
The exhibition, which showcases the most important works of Slovenian Impressionism, is the result of a joint effort by the National Gallery of Slovenia and the Dachau Gallery, represented respectively by their directors Dr Barbara Jaki and Dr Laura Cohen.
In his address at the opening, Dr Musar emphasised that this is the foremost Slovenian cultural event in Bavaria this year, confirming the key role that Munich and nearby Dachau played in the history of Slovenian painting. He also highlighted the exceptionally rich ties between Slovenia and Bavaria — extending over more than a thousand years — across historical, social, economic and cultural fields. In the cultural sphere, he underlined in particular the significance of the work of Anton Ažbe, who at the turn of the 20th century ran a respected and renowned painting school in Munich, and Zoran Mušič, whose artistic path was tragically marked by his imprisonment in the concentration camp.
Before the exhibition opening, Dr Musar, accompanied by the Slovenian delegation, visited the Dachau Concentration Camp and laid a wreath in memory of all Slovenian camp prisoners.
