President's Forum

The President's forums will take place throughout the mandate and are related to strategically important issues for the future of Slovenia.

First President's forum was dedicated to healthcare

Healthcare is one of the key strategic areas to which the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, is paying special attention, which is the reason why today's first President's forum was dedicated to this topic.

The purpose of the forum, which was attended by the Minister of Health, Danijel Bešić Loredan, as the main guest, and by expert panellists, was to contribute to the development of a comprehensive reform of the healthcare system. The reform should be the result of a tolerant dialogue with both the profession and civil society with a view to finding solutions that are good for everyone.

Second President's Forum: "Sustainable Transformations of Food Systems and Achieving Food Sovereignty"

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar hosted a President's Forum entitled "Sustainable Transformations of Food Systems and Achieving Food Sovereignty". This was the second in a series of President's Forums that will be held throughout her term of office and will cover topics of strategic importance for the future of Slovenia and its people.

In her opening address, the President of the Republic announced that the participants would discuss the concept of food sovereignty, which encompasses aspects of security, dependence, and a country's own capacity to cope with and respond to a given challenge. She defined the purpose and objective of the Forum to be the search for concrete solutions, followed by their implementation in cooperation with the Government, which would help to strengthen food sovereignty in the country. She stressed that in this area, the country urgently needs a vision and bold, decisive leadership, with clear objectives and elaborate measures to achieve them: "I believe that a clear vision would mobilise all those involved in the food chain, as it would serve as a wake-up call. The absence of a vision or its lack of clarity are not circumstances in which we can expect much change."clearly.

Third President’s Forum on non-violence

How to ensure the conditions for peaceful coexistence among people and the fundamental right to safety was the question discussed at today’s 3rd President’s Forum at the Brdo Congress Centre at Brdo pri Kranju by 19 speakers, experts from various fields. Drawing overwhelming interest, the Forum was attended by decision-makers, representatives of competent ministries, organisations and services, headteachers, and students.

The biggest challenge and threat to peaceful coexistence are posed by various forms of violence with multi-faceted consequences, affecting and leaving a negative mark on individuals, families, groups and the whole community.

Fourth President’s Forum highlighted one of key issues facing society – climate change and biodiversity conservation

The discussion among top researchers from various scientific disciplines and experts took place in three key contexts: the implementation of international commitments in the Republic of Slovenia, the constitutionally guaranteed right to a healthy living environment, and the Social Contract 2050.

As the President pointed out in her opening remarks, the last two years have reinforced her conviction that climate change requires immediate agreements and action in the most inclusive way possible.

For a long time, she said, international discussions on climate change and human rights had been conducted separately. Slovenia was one of the first countries to draw attention to the urgent need to link the two areas, because it is human rights that provide the legal framework within which we must address the climate crisis in a way that is fair for all.
