Izola, 15 Oct 2025
The fourth meeting of the European Platform for Wood Policy (WoodPop) was held at the premises of one of the most innovative institutes in Slovenia, InnoRenew CoE in Izola, and was attended by high-level representatives of 13 countries, numerous educational and research institutions, and non-governmental organizations in the field of sustainable development.
The spouse of the President of the Republic addressed the gathering on her behalf and presented the story of the creation of the new presidential office, which combines centuries-old Slovenian traditions of woodworking, carpentry, and top-notch design. He interwove the story, which thrilled those present, with events from the past, with Slovenian cultural heritage, the beginnings of the development of Slovenian science and art under the patronage of Baron Žiga Zois, and the work of Slovenia's greatest architect, Jože Plečnik. Some of the wood used in the new furniture comes from the beams of an old hayrack. The oak trees from which it was built in 1823 began to grow before Baron Zois was born.
The design for the new presidential office, "Viševnik," was created at InnoRenew under the leadership of director Ms. Andreja Kutnar and chief architect Ms. Eva Prelovšek Niemila. The entire process of creating this outstanding product of Slovenian craftsmanship, from the tree in the forest to the president's office, was carefully documented by the contractor OSM d.o.o., under the leadership of Mr. Rok Koprivnikar. The project was supported by Elektronček d.o.o. under the leadership of renowned Slovenian entrepreneur Mr. Joco Pečečnik.
