The international donor community is currently dealing with the need to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to more than 363 million people affected by humanitarian crises around the world. On an annual basis, only half of what is needed is provided, leaving more than 180 million people without emergency assistance.

In her address, President Pirc Musar stressed the importance of solidarity in addressing global challenges: "Through international solidarity, countries can join forces to tackle global challenges that are not of an exclusively humanitarian nature, such as the climate crisis, poverty, hunger and migration. Solidarity is a fundamental value that leads to peace, stability and justice, both at home and in the international community."

She also highlighted the experience of the natural disaster in Slovenia in August, which caused devastation but also spread strong solidarity and support, both in Slovenia and from foreign partners. The Slovenian President expressed her wish that the first Humanitarian Forum in Slovenia would convey a message about the importance of strengthening solidarity, acting more effectively, creating new partnerships and implementing the solidarity commitments.

During the Humanitarian Forum, President Pirc Musar also met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Špoljar Egger. She also presented awards to two students, Tisa Julija Golob and Matic Golob, who were selected in the competition for the best artistic and literary works on the theme "Solidarity in the face of natural disasters and other humanitarian crises around the world".

The Slovenian Development Days are organised by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in cooperation with Platform SLOGA, Caritas Slovenia and the CEF and within the framework of the Fund for Bilateral Relations of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Their aim is to strengthen the importance of solidarity and assistance in times of humanitarian crises, thus paving the way for a better future where humanity will be able to respond to the needs of those who are most in need of help.
