"In the current geopolitical climate, the world needs a renewed commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter. A comprehensive reform of the Security Council is needed to better enable it to fulfil its mandate, respond to crises in a timely manner and prevent conflicts around the world," pointed out President Pirc Musar at her meeting with Secretary-General Gutteres.

Slovenia has recently been intensely strengthening its cooperation with the Republic of South Korea. Slovenia has recently officially opened an embassy in Seoul and was elected together with South Korea to the Security Council as non-permanent members for the period 2024–2025. It was therefore very welcome to hear from the South Korean President that South Korea will also open an embassy in Ljubljana. This will further strengthen cooperation between the two countries at both political and economic levels. The two Presidents also discussed cooperation in the fight against disinformation and exchanged views on the necessary reform of the UN.

President Pirc Musar also presented Slovenia’s priorities for the period of non-permanent membership of the Security Council to the Presidents of Sierra Leone, South Sudan and Mongolia.

She concluded her participation in the 78th UN General Assembly at a reception hosted by the Slovenian Embassy in the United States at St Cyril’s Church in New York. In her speech, she thanked the representatives of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Slovenia to the UN for the excellent work they had done during the week of the meeting at the highest level and assessed that Slovenia was very well prepared, both in terms of content and expertise, for its non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
