At the Munich Security Conference 2026, Dr. Aleš Musar participated as a panelist in a discussion held as part of an event organized by the humanitarian organization ITF Enhancing Human Security, dedicated to psychosocial and mental health support for victims of the war in Ukraine. The event brought together experts and humanitarian actors working in the field, who presented practical approaches to comprehensive recovery and the preservation of individual dignity even during the ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
Munich, Germany, 13 Feb 2026
The discussion took place at the Ukraine House at MSC 2026 and focused on the humanitarian significance of security in times of prolonged war. The panel featured Dr. Aleš Musar, spouse of the President of the Republic of Slovenia; Ms. Olga Rudnieva, Director of the Superhumans Center from Ukraine; and Dr. Martin Schuldes, Head of the Division for Peace and Security at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. The discussion was moderated by ITF Director Amb. Tomaž Lovrenčič.
From the perspective of their daily work in the humanitarian field, the participants emphasized that assistance to war victims must include not only physical rehabilitation—following the loss of a leg or arm and other injuries—but also psychological support, strengthening of mental health, and the reintegration of war victims into social life.
Ms. Olga Rudnieva presented the work of the Superhumans Lviv center, where rehabilitation of victims is understood not merely as the provision of prostheses for lost limbs, but as a process that helps individuals regain a sense of purpose, set goals, and actively engage in life again. In the discussion, Dr. Aleš Musar highlighted the importance of direct presence in Ukraine and understanding the needs of victims who have been particularly severely affected by the war, stressing that mental health is an equal part of recovery. He also pointed to cooperation with the First Lady of Ukraine, Ms. Olena Zelenska, in raising awareness about the importance of psychosocial support, and recalled the visit to the Superhumans center in Lviv in November 2025, which he carried out together with the Director of ITF.
From the perspective of German authorities, Dr. Martin Schuldes emphasized that cooperation with Ukrainian healthcare institutions also brings added value to European partners, as Ukrainian experts have developed a high level of expertise under extremely demanding conditions in the fields of amputation rehabilitation, reconstructive surgery, and treatment of severe injuries.
During the event at the Ukraine House, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, was also present. He confirmed the importance of continued humanitarian activities by ITF and Slovenia’s overall support for Ukraine during the ongoing war, particularly in areas related to the protection of civilians, rehabilitation of victims, and mental health.
