Dr Musar invited the children from Armenia to visit Ljubljana Zoo
The group of children from Armenia is participating in a psychosocial assistance programme organized for the fifth consecutive year by the Slovenian non-profit organization ITF Enhancing Human Security. The children have been staying throughout the week at the Debeli Rtič Youth Health and Summer Resort, where a psychosocial rehabilitation programme is being carried out.
Publish date Ljubljana,
Dr Aleš Musar, spouse of the President of the Republic of Slovenia and member of the ITF Board of Trustees, invited the children on a beautiful autumn day, 1 October 2026, to visit Ljubljana Zoo.
The boys and girls, who are completing primary school or entering secondary school, took part in feeding a bear, watched a sea lion presentation, observed a Siberian tigress and her cubs, and met many other animals that are cared for with great dedication by the staff of Ljubljana Zoo. With the assistance of Dr Musar and the zoo’s professional staff, they learned more about animal care and the importance of trust, responsibility, and respectful treatment of animals.
The consequences of the war in Armenia have been particularly severe for children who witnessed gunfire, explosions, and the destruction of their homes. Many of them, including orphans, continue to cope with trauma, making professional assistance and psychosocial support essential to their recovery.
ITF implements the assistance programme for Armenian children affected by war with the support of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. This is the fifth group to participate in the programme. In previous years, the programme also included parents and other family members affected by the war.
