Dr. Aleš Musar visits Lebanon at the start of a new humanitarian project
On Thursday, 28 August 2025, a ceremony was held in Chabriha near Tyre in southern Lebanon to mark the launch of a new two-year humanitarian project for the removal of cluster munitions, funded by the Republic of Slovenia within the framework of the ITF Enhancing Human Security. The project represents a continuation of the Republic of Slovenia's efforts to help the population in affected areas and strengthen humanitarian cooperation.

The ceremony was attended by the spouse of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, dr. Aleš Musar, who emphasized in his address the importance of partnership and shared responsibility in addressing humanitarian challenges. "Today marks not only the start of a new project to remove cluster munitions, but also proof of what can be achieved through international cooperation. Slovenia is proud to be able to contribute to activities that save lives," said dr. Musar.
During the event, participants learned about demining procedures, listened to the experiences of survivors, and planted a tree in an area that had been cleared of cluster munitions as a symbol of hope and peace.
On Friday, 29 August 2025, dr. Aleš Musar in Beirut met with the wife of the President of Lebanon, H.E. Ms. Nehmat Aoun, who welcomed him and expressed her gratitude for Slovenia's humanitarian support. She emphasized that Slovenia's assistance strengthens the friendly ties between the two countries and provides concrete support to the people who still live in difficult circumstances.
On this occasion, dr. Musar highlighted the successful cooperation between the ITF and the Lebanese Mine Action Center (LMAC) and emphasized the importance of further involvement of international donors. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen cooperation in the humanitarian field. Ms. Aoun also conveyed greetings from the President of Lebanon to the President of the Republic of Slovenia, dr. Nataša Pirc Musar.
