THE POWER OF THE WORD (The President's podcast) - #5: Marina Abramović

In this episode of the Power of the Word podcast, the President of the Republic, Nataša Pirc Musar, talks to world-renowned multimedia artist Marina Abramović. The conversation was recorded an hour before the closing of the Confess exhibition, which they later visited together. The exhibition, which was on display for several months at the Church of Our Lady of Health in Piran, includes not only the artistic intervention of Igor Andjelić and Aldo Kumar, but also the restitution of the main altar with Marina Abramović's 2009 work The Golden Mask. 

Marina Abramović is an artist who surprises time and time again with her projects, inspiring and often shocking. She is a pioneer of conceptual art and performance with a diverse artistic output. She is described by art lovers as a legend of performance art and an undisputed star in the field. From the beginning of her career in Yugoslavia, in the early 1970s, when she attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, she established performance as a visual art form. The body became both the content and the medium of her work. In conversation with the President, she shared how ideas for new projects are born: in her dreams. 

Marina Abramović has taught and lectured in Europe and America, including in Hamburg and Paris, and for seven years was a professor of performance art in Braunschweig. She has received honorary doctorates from Chicago, Plymouth and Massachusetts. Among her many awards, she received the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the Venice Biennale in 1997 for her outstanding video montage Balkan Baroque, as well as several major prizes for her work in New York. Abramović founded, among other things, the Marina Abramović Institute, a platform for immaterial and durational works that opens up new possibilities for collaboration between different fields of art and creativity.
