Slovenia and Slovakia aim to deepen economic cooperation, particularly in logistics and the automotive industry
At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, the President of the Republic of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, is on a working visit to Slovenia. The visit is focused on deepening economic cooperation, as the Slovak President is accompanied by a business delegation. The two presidents also discussed current European and international issues.

The main topic of discussion was the deepening of economic cooperation, particularly in logistics and the automotive industry. Slovenia and Slovakia are important economic partners. In 2024, the trade in goods between the two countries reached EUR 1.48 billion – a 5.1% increase compared to the previous year. Both presidents highlighted the importance of participation of Slovenian companies in Slovak supply chains and the possibilities for enhancing the Port of Koper's transhipment capacities.
"Slovenia wants more Slovenian companies in Slovak supply chains and more Slovak partners in Slovenian development projects – from green mobility to smart logistics," said President Pirc Musar. President Pirc Musar and President Pellegrini visited the Port of Koper, where they were introduced to the port’s capabilities and discussed opportunities to further strengthen the cooperation with the port’s management and members of the Slovak business delegation.
The Presidents also discussed the current situation in the European Union, in particular the issues of EU enlargement and internal reforms. President Pirc Musar stressed the importance of maintaining European unity in support of Ukraine and highlighted the need for a decisive and unified European Middle Eastern policy: "When faced with wars in our immediate neighbourhood – in Ukraine and Gaza – we must translate European values into actions. A unified and effective EU is the only true path forward."
The two presidents also confirmed the excellent relations between their countries and expressed their willingness to continue political and security cooperation, particularly within the EU, NATO and the UN.
