Meeting with Ambassadors of EU Member States

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, participated in a meeting with the ambassadors of European Union (EU) member states (EU HoMs), organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium (which covers Slovenia from Vienna), currently holding the Presidency of the EU Council. The participants discussed current challenges within the EU, the enlargement process, and also touched upon the situation in the Middle East.

At the outset, the President expressed her satisfaction with the higher voter turnout in Slovenia during Sunday’s European Parliament elections. On the occasion of this year’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of Slovenia’s EU membership, President Pirc Musar has been actively participating in numerous discussions, particularly with young people, on the future of the EU. The highlight of the celebration was a meeting of the Presidents of all neighboring countries on April 22, 2024, at Brdo Castle near Kranj.

Slovenia remains committed to the green transition and the EU’s common goals to combat climate change, achieve carbon neutrality, and ensure efficient resource use by 2050. The President also reaffirmed Slovenia's strong commitment to supporting the swift integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU.

Furthermore, the President once again expressed support for the decision to recognize the State of Palestine. In doing so, she acknowledged that recognition is merely the first step toward a long-term solution based on a two-state solution—a solution that must end in a just and lasting peace.
