President Receives President of the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, received the President of the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate (PJS), Nasser Abu Baker, who is visiting Slovenia at the invitation of the Slovenian Association of Journalists.

Presidential Palace, 18 Sept 2025

Abu Baker is an important voice for Palestinian journalists and media workers. The PJS represents approximately three thousand members, including all accredited journalists in Gaza. According to the union, there were around 1,200 journalists in Gaza before October 2023. Over the past year, in response to numerous attacks on journalists, the PJS has established solidarity centers for media workers and, with the support of international partners, created a special fund to assist Palestinian media.

The union also collects documentation on attacks against journalists and their families. According to its reports, since 7 October 2023 more than 240 journalists have been killed and over 500 injured. The PJS has also submitted cases to the International Criminal Court. In his conversation with the President, Abu Baker emphasized that Palestinian journalists continue to report on developments in Gaza and the West Bank despite extremely dangerous conditions.

The President of the Republic of Slovenia stressed her strong condemnation of attacks on journalists as well as other violations of human rights and humanitarian law during armed conflicts in areas such as Gaza. She announced that she would also address this issue at the session of the United Nations General Assembly. The President expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and underlined that Palestinians deserve peace, security, and a dignified life in their own state. She also reaffirmed that Slovenia remains among the strongest supporters of Palestinian statehood and the two-state solution. Slovenia has long been a humanitarian supporter of Palestine.
