In a conversation with the hostages’ relatives, the President of the Republic once again and unequivocally condemned the terrible attack by the Palestinian terrorist movement Hamas on Israel and expressed her sincerest sympathies to the relatives. Since October 7, 2023 President Pirc Musar has been advocating for the immediate release of the hostages and an immediate cessation of hostilities. At the same time, she is constantly pointing out gross violations of international law, human rights, and the wanton trampling of human dignity in Gaza, where Israel's unacceptable attacks on the civilian population, including recent attack on the camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah, have already killed more than 15,000 children.
“We will never forget the terrible slaughter of Hamas on the Israeli people. Neither the State of Israel's policy of collective punishment of the Palestinians. But international law and international humanitarian law are clear – such behaviour by the terrorist movement Hamas and the State of Israel is contrary to international law, international humanitarian law and to the principles of humanity," the President emphasized after the meeting and again called for the immediate release of the hostages, an immediate cessation of hostilities and the independent functioning of international institutions that must be on the side of humanity – meaning the UN and its Security Council, as well as international courts.
