ART VITAL exhibition preview – 12 years of the Ulay–Marina Abramović tandem
The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, attended an ART VITAL exhibition preview – 12th years of the Ulay–Marina Abramović tandem at the Cukrarna Gallery.
Cukrarna Gallery, Ljubljana, 29 Nov 2025
In her speech, she said that she considered the recording of Marina Abramović's meeting with Ulay at the New York Museum of Modern Art in 2010 as one of the few genuine moments of truth. It was a moment that was both personal and cosmic, and, speaking in terms of music, represented a code of the common artistic and life journey taken by Marina Abramović and Frank Uwe Laysiepen over the past twelve years.
She explained that a year ago, she had asked Marina Ambramović, who wrote and updated the Heroes' Manifesto in 2022, what kind of heroes we need today: "The world is changing, and not for the better. Last year she replied to me that I should read the biography of Gandhi, who achieved revolutionary changes without bloodshed. And that the world should learn to forgive. Not only the world, but also individuals. I also see the exhibition that we are opening tonight as a metaphor for a shared journey that begins, continues, and ends, but is truly complete when it is blessed by forgiveness."
The President ended her speech by giving thanks to the exhibition's curators Alenka Gregorič and Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein, who have done a great job for art lovers in Slovenia and from around the world.
A year ago, the President recorded a podcast with Marina Abramović, which they both mentioned in their respective speeches at the exhibition preview. See the podcast below.
