Slovenia Must Remain Consistent in Upholding International Law
President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar clearly emphasises that Slovenia must support the European Union’s joint statement on the continued expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank. The same principles must apply when assessing violations of international law, regardless of which country commits them.

The expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank is contrary to international law, undermines the two-state solution and diminishes the prospects for lasting peace. The President therefore advocates a clear and united European response to such actions.
“International law is not a matter of political choice, and there must be no double standards when it comes to respecting it. It applies equally to everyone. Slovenia, drawing on its own historical experience, understands well the importance of sovereignty and territorial integrity and must therefore be particularly consistent in defending these principles. When they are violated, Slovenia must be among the countries that stand up for them clearly and unequivocally,” emphasises the President of the Republic.
