In memory of Pope Francis
On Easter Monday, Pope Francis passed away. Below, we share the reflections of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, on his death. The President of the Republic met Pope Francis three times. The first occasion was at the funeral of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on January 5, 2023. Pope Francis then received her twice in private audience: on May 22, 2023, during her official visit to the Republic of Italy, and on December 5, 2024, during her official visit to the Holy See in the Vatican.

»It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. On behalf of the Republic of Slovenia and in my own name, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Catholic Church and to all those around the world who drew strength and inspiration from his message of compassion, humility, and hope.
The world has lost an extraordinary spiritual leader who marked our time with his simplicity, compassion, and tireless efforts for peace, justice, and the dignity of all people. His words and actions spoke to the hearts of millions of believers and non-believers around the globe. The words he shared with me during our meetings will remain with me always.
His passing on Easter Monday – the day when Christians commemorate the triumph of life over death – carries a profound symbolism. It invites us to reflect on his enduring legacy and on the light he brought into the world through his words and deeds.
May he rest in peace, and may his vision of a more just, compassionate and united world continue to guide us all.«
