Pension reform – a dignified old age for all

The changes in the age structure of the population are a fact and the intergenerational solidarity on which our pension system is based has been put to the test due to the changing ratio between the employed and retired populations. Poverty among the elderly (and other population groups) is unacceptable in a relatively wealthy society such as the one we have in Slovenia. We must determine how to reform the pension system so that it will ensure a long-term, sustainable and dignified old age for everyone. In doing so, we must look as broadly as possible, while including the long-term care system and perhaps even a parallel reform of social transfers. The universal basic income should also be an option to consider.

Intergenerational cooperation cannot be overlooked; young and old people must think together and help each other by sharing knowledge and demonstrate solidarity to one another. To this end, I will promote cooperation between schools and retirement homes.

Objective: Everyone should be able to enjoy a dignified old age.
