Democracy requires leadership that pushes those policies aiming to survive the present and be ready for the future
At the invitation of the President of the United States of America, the President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar participated in the second Summit for Democracy that took place on 28 and 29 March 2023. Via video link, the President of the Republic took part in the thematic debate on fair treatment and gender equality and in the Leaders’ Plenary Session. The participation of President Pirc Musar is a confirmation of the commitment of the Republic of Slovenia to the respect, implementation and protection of democracy, the rule of law and human rights at home and around the world – something that the President highlighted in her address.

On 28 March 2023, the President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar took part in a thematic debate on fair treatment and gender equality. The discussion The Status of Women is the Status of Democracy was moderated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
"Equal opportunities for women and girls, and gender equity as an end-result in all walks of life, are important. Not just for women, but for the entire society," was one of the key points of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, who explained the difference between justice and equality: "Equality is giving everyone the same pair of shoes. Equity is giving everyone a pair of shoes that fits." The President also highlighted the preparation of a new, feminist foreign policy strategy of the Republic of Slovenia with the aim of ensuring the comprehensive, equal and constructive participation of women in decision-making on peace, security and climate change.

President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar addressed the leaders at the plenary session of the Summit for Democracy via video link. The leaders discussed the power of democracy and its potential around the world.
Many countries, representatives of civil society and the private sector participated in the virtual summit. The leaders supported and adopted a declaration reaffirming their shared belief that democracy is the most enduring form of peace, prosperity, equality, sustainable development and security for humanity.
In her address at the Leaders’ plenary session of the Summit for Democracy, the President of the Republic emphasized that democracy requires leadership that pushes those policies aiming to survive the present and be ready for the future, namely solidarity, globally accessible finance, science and technology, and respect for human rights.
