Slovenia to Host Meeting of European Non-Executive Presidents for the First Time in October

Location: Brdo pri Kranju

The Heads of State of the Arraiolos Group will meet at Brdo pri Kranju to discuss the future of the European Union and its role at a time of major geopolitical change.

A meeting of European non-executive presidents, who come together in the informal Arraiolos Group, will take place at Brdo pri Kranju on 15 and 16 October 2026. The meeting will be hosted by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar.

The Arraiolos Group is an established European forum for presidents. It was initiated in 2003 by the then President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, and enables Heads of State who do not participate in the work of the European Council to exchange views openly on key European and international issues.

This year’s meeting comes at a time of significant geopolitical shifts, security challenges and debate about the European Union’s future role in the world. Its central theme will be “The European Union in an Age of Multiple Crises: Between Retreat and Resilience.”

Discussions will focus on the future of the European Union, its security and resilience, and Europe’s ability to maintain its political influence and active role in a changing international environment. The presidents will also discuss the importance of multilateralism and the future of international institutions, including the United Nations.

Hosting the meeting is particularly significant for Slovenia, as this will be the first time the Arraiolos Group has met in the country since its establishment more than two decades ago. The meeting will bring European presidents to Slovenia for direct dialogue on issues that will shape Europe’s future. It will also provide an opportunity to strengthen Slovenia’s profile and role in Europe and internationally.
