The President of the Republic of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar met with Irene Fellin, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security.

President Pirc Musar and Ms Fellin spoke about human security, which includes the areas of protecting civilians, preventing and responding to conflict-related sexual violence, the fight against human trafficking, children in armed conflicts and the protection of cultural heritage, as well as the extraordinary importance of including these topics in all the fundamental tasks of the alliance.

They highlighted the importance of awareness of the various impacts of conflicts on women and the contribution of women to their resolution. In terms of the proportion of women participating in the armed forces, Slovenia is above the NATO average, and the Slovenian army consistently includes the aspect of gender.

The President of the Republic and Special Representative Fellin agreed that in order to effectively and successfully face the challenges of modern times, it is essential that women are involved in all aspects of maintaining peace and security and that they are equal and equitable actors in conflict resolution.
